House Project: Bedroom Ceiling Fan

This was the ceiling fan in our master bedroom.
Not very impressive but what can I say it's 20 years old.
You have to love the gold scroll work on the fan blades...every ceiling fan in our house has that same scroll work. But there was a reason why we needed to replace this particular fan even though  I would love to replace all of them...
Andrew was stationed at Ft. Dix for 2 years which is an Army and Air Force base.  Andrew's housing was close to the air field on post and when planes were being prepared to take off all you could hear was the roaring of jet engines.
Well, our ceiling fan was about as loud as those jet engines.

I am a girl who needs noise to sleep.
I am in love with my nature CD's except the one with an elk calling about an hour into the CD (talk about a wild wake up!).  I am the mom who has the baby monitor turned all the way up just so I can listen to Buddy Bee's fan and noise machine.  Well, the sound of a jet engine ceiling fan and the fear that if it kept wobbling like that, it might just fall on you when you are sleeping was not conducive to restful sleep.

So Buddy Bee and I headed to Lowes armed with left over Christmas money and my military ID.
( Lowes offers a 10% Military Discount for those currently serving, immediate family members, and retired veterans.)  I was looking for a no frills, inexpensive, and attractive ceiling fan.  A half hour later we had found our new ceiling fan.   The best part is that it has a remote control...perfect for the middle of the night, "Andrew I am cold can you get up and turn the fan off" moment.

Our new fan would not be installed that night but about a week later Andrew was up for installing this "easy to assemble" fan.

Andrew and his helper crew getting ready to take down the very dusty ceiling fan.

Buddy Bee was just happy to be jumping on the bed.

Light shades off.

Not sure what he was talking about but he was having a very intense conversation with the headboard.

Andrew struggling with removing the last piece.

Come down you ugly ceiling fan, come down!

Buddy Bee stepping in to help Daddy.

Buddy Bee fixing the problem by yelling and waving Mommy's hair brush at it!

Buddy Bee's, "I tried but it did not work" look.

Only after a few hours we finally have a hole in the ceiling.

Andrew preparing the new fixture to go up.
Here's hoping the box would not lie and it truly would be an easy to assemble fan.

No pressure Daddy but it's getting close to Buddy Bee's bedtime!

Buddy Bee's, I have had enough of this project, face.

Oh, the attitude on this child...

Buddy Bee got over his fit and snuggled into Mommy and Daddy' s bed until his own bedtime.

Yay!  The new fan is attached to the ceiling.

It's looking like this Mama won't be listening to a jet engine tonight!

The last piece to be attached!

Our new ceiling fan installed by my wonderful husband.

Buddy Bee might have missed the first lighting ceremony but he has sure had fun playing with the remote since.

  1. It’s been more than a year since you bought that ceiling fan? Do you want it to look new again? If so, I suggest painting it would be a good idea. You can paint the blades with colors that match your bedroom interiors. It will certainly bring a whole new look to your room. ->Brooklyn Fan & Blower Sales Company

  2. This is a very well-documented post on ceiling fan installation! Haha! Well, as you said, though the noise isn't bothering you, the fact that it's two decades old and starting to act up is enough reason to contemplate on having a new one. And don't you just love the remote controlled ceiling fan? Your son probably digs it big! Congratulations!
