The Return of the Juniper

The goal when we bought our cabin was to make it our own.  But when the house was originally built and  lived in for 20 years by a relative it is sometimes hard to really feel like it was truly ours.  We still walk into our home and sometimes smell my great aunt's fragrance.  One of our main projects was to tackle the juniper and bushes around the house.  It has been a lengthy project, started way back in April, but we are loving the results.

And all major projects require big machinery!

And here is the enemy....JUNIPER!

There were 4 overgrown and massive juniper bushes along our front porch.  Andrew and I are not a fan of these bushes . They were swallowing up the house and if you have ever been around them you know that they drop these thorn like leaves which, have been tracked into the house by our furry animals and the little Bee. The Juniper had to go.

And Buddy Bee's love of tractors and trucks began.

With the Buddy Bee safely seated by Mommy, Andrew started pulling out the first bush.

Half way out!
The juniper bushes look huge in front of the house but it was not until it was out did we really see how large they had gotten.

I have never been more excited for an empty hole in the ground!

When did my little baby grow up?

My little Bee and I waiting for Andrew to return after dropping off the juniper.

Now you can see the porch...messiness and all!

Buddy Bee all ready to dig in his new holes!

Buddy Bee learned quickly that when the tractor started he needed to stand next to Mommy and to cover his ears.

Next, we moved around to the back of the house.

Supervisor Buddy Bee telling Daddy how it should be done.

My boys working so hard.

Buddy Bee took his supervisor job very seriously.

But even the best supervisor needs some help up now and then.

With the last bush hooked up we were really excited to see it go but it proved more difficult than the last 4.

We won't talk about this.
Look close.  I think wheels are supposed to be on the ground.

When you are frustrated with a juniper bush you just have to laugh at yourself.

Our crazy little bee!

Towards the end of our project Buddy Bee knew just what to do.

Finally it was out!

The thing was as tall as the tractor.

Finally a blank slate around the deck.

A sad little Buddy Bee waiting for his Daddy to return from taking the tractor back.

Daddy took too long so the Buddy Bee decided to go after him.

Just one step towards making this house ours.

Buddy Bee smiles returned and some additional squealing when Daddy returned!

With half of our project done we headed back inside to put our sleepy little Bee to bed.
Our project would continue a few nights later.

The next phase of our little project involved the front side of the house and the crazy evergreen shrubs.

I can't wait to plant flowers and flowering shrubs.

Our favorite had to be this "burnt" shrub.

The boys hooking up the first shrub to go.

The first one out!

Our little Buddy Bee working on filling in the hole or possibly making it a tad deeper.

Buddy Bee taking his rightful spot as supervisor.

With our little taste tester testing all the dirt Andrew finished pulling out all but one of the remaining shrubs in our project.  We could see the changes taking form and are excited about how our home is changing to OUR HOME!  The final reveal however, will wait for another day.
